ADVANCED GREEK TEXT
This module provides an opportunity for students to further their skills in intermediate Greek syntax by means of an introduction to a more advanced level Greek syntax.
N.T. ENGLISH TEXT (1 THESSALONIANS)
Students explore and identify the principles and methods of early exegesis by studying 1 Thessalonians. The study will be based on selected passages and themes, from which it will be possible to assess the development of Hellenistic Christian Theology.
O.T. ENGLISH TEXT (JOB/ECCLESIATES)
Maturity is required in the approach of these books in a number of areas. Students will be expected to interact with the various views on how these two books have achieved their final form in the area of literary criticism. In the area of philosophical theology, students will be expected to interact with modern theodicies in the face of human anguish, incomprehension and nihilism. The module will therefore integrate academic, theological, and philosophical issues into the area of applied pastoral studies.
REFORMATION
This historical module gives attention to the Renaissance-Reformation period. The importance of this module is made more urgent by the discussions between Roman Catholics and Protestants concerning the unity of the Church. Therefore, Martin Luther's discovery of the doctrine of Justification by faith is of vital importance.
ECCLESIOLOGY
The module aims to provide a good academic framework for the students in their critical interaction with theological and historical questions regarding the mission of the church. It stimulates students to interact with contemporary developments and problems in this particular subject.
N.T. ETHICS
This module aims at developing the students' understanding of the ethical teaching of Christ and the N.T. writers. This is intended to equip students to face ethical issues they are likely to face in their future ministries.
ESCHATOLOGY
The aim of this subject is to provide the opportunity of analysing in depth the extensive biblical data as a base for critical examination of theological and evangelical debate. This also provides stimulus for students to use their academic skills in interaction with other theological areas.
REVIVAL & REVIVALIST
Within most church denominations, there has been a resurrection of interest in this subject. This may be due to a number of factors including a decline in church attendance in the UK, and reports of recent revivals in some developing countries. The history of revival in the West and the theology of the revivalist will be examined.
PAULINE STUDIES
This module introduces students to the Pauline letters. Students will be assisted to identify and appreciate the factors that influenced Paul's style, outlook and theological thinking.
NEW RELIGIOUS MOVEMENTS
The subject's approach is to provide an understanding in their origins, beliefs and practices. The subject provides an inter-disciplinary understanding. The students will examine the historical and sociological aspects contributing to the growth of the New Religious Movements.
MISSIOLOGY
In studying missions attention is given to Old and New Testament texts relating to missions. The key New Testament passages such as Matthew 28:18-20 receive detailed exegetical attention. Principles of church planting are also studied.
